Fine Was Never the Goal: Why Settling Keeps You Stuck
“I’m fine.”
How many times have those two words slipped out of your mouth this week?
For Gen X women, fine has become the mask we wear. We’ve been conditioned to carry the weight of everyone else’s needs, smile through exhaustion, and blend in so we don’t get labeled as “too much.”
But let’s be clear: fine was never the goal.
The Lie of “Fine”
Fine looks safe on the outside.
Fine looks put-together.
Fine keeps people from asking too many questions.
But fine also keeps you:
Shrinking instead of shining.
Surviving instead of thriving.
Existing instead of actually living.
And deep down, you know it.
The Cost of Living Fine
When you settle for fine, you rob yourself of joy. You trade authenticity for approval. You silence your needs to meet everyone else’s.
I know this because I lived it. I smiled when I was drowning. I said “I’m fine” when I was completely falling apart. I believed the lies I told myself - that I wasn’t enough, that I had to earn worthiness, that if I just kept pushing, I’d finally arrive at… what? Perfect?
Friend, perfect doesn’t exist. And “fine” isn’t living.
What’s Better Than Fine
Here’s the truth: you were made for more than fine.
You were made for joy — the kind that bubbles up even on messy days.
You were made for peace — the kind that lets you breathe again.
You were made for confidence — the unapologetic kind that says, “I belong here.”
And you don’t get there by hustling harder or punishing yourself with the next diet. You get there by taking small, intentional rebellions against shrinking.
Your Micro Rebellion This Week
If “fine” has been your go-to answer, here’s your challenge: tell the truth.
If you’re tired, say it.
If you need help, ask.
If you’re excited, shout it from the rooftops.
The women in your world don’t need your perfection. They need your authenticity. And the truth is, so do you.
